The Souther Hillman Furay Band were one of the first supergroups of the mid-seventies which brought together the super talented sounds of John David Souther who was known for his angelic voice and arsenal of hit songs with bands like The Eagles, The Byrds' co- founder multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and hit songwriter Chris Hillman, who had just left Manassas with Stephen Stills, and the powerful voice, guitar and acclaimed songwriter Richie Furay of Poco/Buffalo Springfield fame.
The three artists got together and recorded the #11 chart hit album "The Souther Hillman Furay Band" in 1974 on the relatively new L.A. based Asylum Records label. With production from Richie Podolor (Steppenwolf/Alice Cooper/Three Dog Night), the album would deliver several rock radio hits like "Safe At Home" "Border Town" and the hit single "Fallin' In Love." The powerful band consisted of the three principles along with Jim Gordon on drums (Derek & The Dominos), Al Perkins on steel guitar/guitars (Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas) , Paul Harris (Manassas/B.B. King) and Joe Lala (Crosby, Stills & Nash/Dan Fogelberg).
