CASH,ROSANNE - WHEEL Vinyl LP
Recorded in the early '90s when Rosanne Cash first moved to New York City,The Wheelwas produced by John Leventhal—her eventual life partner—and sparked a reinvention of her sound and career. Rosanne's landmark release is remastered in celebration of the album's 30th anniversary.
Rosanne says of the album,"It's satisfying and sweet to re-introduce The Wheel in this thirtieth anniversary year. I can't look back at that time and separate the music from Love. What was true then has become more true and more alive every day since. We listen to this record now, and wish we had mixed the vocal a little louder on this track, or had a different guitar sound on that track, but honestly, it's perfect for its time and place. I have a friend who doesn't believe that artists evolve, but that there are only different stages and expressions. I'm not sure about that, but in either case, I'm so grateful for The Wheel. It turns out I can't orchestrate the movement of the stars. They do that all on their own."
"One of the most ambitious and literary songwriters of her generation"(Rolling Stone), Rosanne Cash is America's foremost musical woman of letters, a literate and incisive artist whose poignant and distinctive vocals turn every song into a revelatory tale. A singular artist at the peak of her interpretive powers, Cash has earned four Grammy awards—three forThe River & the Thread(2014, Blue Note)—and 12 additional nominations. Among many other accolades, in 2021 she became the first woman to receive the Edward MacDowell award for music composition. Her acclaimed memoirComposedwas published in 2010.
